NFTs are one of the foundations of web3. This series will introduce NFTs through 30 short articles, allowing everyone to understand and master relevant knowledge about NFTs from scratch.
Every time someone mentions Web3 or NFTs, we hear about "communities." Let's learn about it in this article.
In the Web3 field, communities are everywhere. From the early email groups of crypto punks organizations to communities formed by NFT holders, to decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), we can consider them as "communities." The frequent appearance of communities in various occasions shows the importance of communities in the crypto world. We can enter the crypto world through communities.
Looking back at human history, we can see the presence of communities in various moments. In the primitive hunting and gathering period, people gathered together to resist wild beasts and have a chance to survive. The community of citizens in Athens could discuss and establish laws and codes for the city-state. People with the same vision gather together to work for the same goal... From numerous examples, we learn that communities play an important role in human development. In communities, we unite and help each other, assisting the elderly, children, patients, and the weak. Together, we create beautiful things.
Communities exist in various forms. In addition to the forms mentioned above, there are offline community universities, interest groups in parks, and labels formed by enthusiasts in various industries. Various communities exist in all walks of life. The development of the internet in recent decades has made online life as important as offline life. Therefore, communities also exist in various forms online, from WeChat groups, Facebook groups, Reddit channels, and Discord servers to membership community websites specifically created for various businesses. Compared to offline socializing, which requires long-term interaction to establish connections with other members, online accounts can quickly establish connections by showcasing the digital assets and digital identities they possess, crossing the barriers of time and space.
Digital assets can be obtained for free or purchased by users themselves. We consider digital assets as a place where we project our emotions and values, allowing us to establish our own digital presence. At the same time, these digital assets serve as readable data, attracting others interested in these items. (These digital assets can be digital artworks, avatars, membership cards, game characters, identity markers, etc.) A good community will help the development of a project. Of course, a community can also become the driving force behind a project's failure. The development of a community is influenced by many factors, but for a crypto community, the values and actions of the initiators (individuals or teams) are the most important influencing factors.
We see members of some NFT communities working together to promote projects and make them bigger and stronger. We also see conflicts erupting within some communities, leading to project failures. Mentioning these is just to tell everyone that community building is a very important part of any human-involved activity. For crypto projects, communities are even more crucial.
In this article, we talked about "communities" as an introduction. We hope that everyone can join NFT communities or DAO-like communities that they are interested in, communicate and discuss with others, create together, and establish connections for mutual progress.
